Since some of our family here was going out of town, we celebrated with them a few days before Christmas. We had a nice turkey dinner and then opened some presents. Kaylee and Sienna were delighted to find a wonderful doll house complete with all the miniature accessories.
We also love getting the custom-made ornaments every year.
The gift for Joel and I was absolutely perfect: a gift card to the movies and free babysitting when we decide to use it!
I made homemade Christmas treats as our gift including; English toffee, shortbread cookies, candy cane chocolate pretzels, and chocolate fudge.
Later in the week came Christmas Eve. This year was unique because we spent part of it with my great friend from college, Becca and her family. Her parents live just down the street, so we get to see Becca when she comes for a visit from Utah. They did an elaborate Christmas cantata that has been a tradition in their family for over 20 years. It was so interesting to get to peek in on another family's Christmas traditions. I really like the Christ-centered tradition of the cantata and would like to adapt it for our family for next year. We have a tradition of having chicken enchiladas for dinner on Christmas eve, so we had them for lunch instead. Yum!
When we got home from Becca's, it was full on Santa's Helpers mode. LOVE IT! Christmas eve has a magical feeling, anticipation and excitement. Before the girls went to bed we set out Santa's cookies (pumpkin chocolate chip by Mommy and Kaylee) and milk.
The elves went to bed quite late. It's hard to sleep when you're excited!
